That way when my or my kid's primary goes up the wall, I'd be able to have a decent stab at fixing them myself. So far I've only done M4 types with V2 gearboxes, but that's good enough for now. It also helped me to add upgrades to my primary, and get it working, albeit with a lot of bad language and the odd misfeed.

The whole experience, coupled with comments I read here and other forums got me thinking, how did you learn to tech? There are many people out there with a vast amount of knowledge of this stuff, is that all gained by trial and error? or are there more organized ways to teach yourself? I realize there are tons of videos and forums, but until you start doing this yourself, there is no comparison. One small example was when I tried to put the SP120, that came as a spare with my 2nd hand gun, in the gearbox. I just couldn't get the thing to close, as it was so long and heavy that it kept pushing everything out of alignment.
